    REVIEW BY JEFF KING...

So pleased this album has seen the light of day.

Fifteen tracks of story-telling at its best. The band pays great attention to detail and the sax work really stands out on track two.

All the tracks are so different in style somewhere between rock and pop. Catchy choruses make the whole album swing with good use of Reggae and Jazz in the mix.

The standout track Don’t Burst My Bubble is a heartfelt story of loneliness and is so relevant - really well put together and the whole arrangement and backing is sympathetic to the heartfelt vocals.

This album well deserves to be listened to and withstands the test of time.

about

This album from the basement archives is a compilation of recordings I made in the years 1996-2005 - before I started playing the Blues with the Eric Street Band. They range from rock to pop with a bit of chilled reggae, and they were co-written with Trevor Short and recorded in his Rock Factory studio in Cirencester. These remastered tracks are only available as downloads here on Bandcamp at this special price!

1995 was when I got back into playing music. I had a big birthday coming up at the end of that year and I wanted my party to be different to others that I’d been to before - where they’d play old soul records, get pissed and talk about the mad old mod days in Brighton, etc...

So being different, as always. I teamed with old mates and got a band together, calling ourselves the Acoustic Blues Band. We played at my party and got great feedback that night, so I decided to carry it on. I found a studio in Cirencester, called Rock Factory, which was owned by Trevor Short. We made a couple of demos there which led to our very first album ‘Our Kind Of Blues’ which came out in 1998. I became very close mates with Trevor and decided to break up the band and concentrate on recording.

I spent nine years at Rock Factory and made eight albums with Trevor and also recorded two Southside Blues Band albums when I reformed the band to play the blues circuit. Trevor showed me shitloads about writing, singing and recording. He gave me a hard time about getting my vocals right, and without that I would never have got to where I am now!

All the albums we made were never put out there - only sent to record companies. One was Firewall Records, who brought out an album, ‘Best Of Unsigned Acts’, and we had the first song on the album, ‘City Life’, which I have included on this album, along with many other great songs that sadly never got released.

Trevor’s band, Dealer, are one of the best rock bands around today. They have just come back from a USA tour and are off soon on another tour to Germany, and will be recording a new album sometime later this year.

All the songs that we recorded during those sessions were written by me and Trevor, apart from some by Grant David, who played on several of the albums from the Rock Factory recordings.

These songs were just too good to go unheard - I hope you enjoy them as much as I did, going back in time to bring them up out of the basement!
