about

‘Purple Passage’ - part of a book where the author excels himself and the writing shines out above the rest. For me, musically speaking, I’ve made some great albums before, but this one really shines out. Here’s how it came about...

After reforming the Southside Blues Band last year, and doing several gigs, we recorded an EP with five songs - three of which are included here as Bonus Tracks if you buy the whole album. This EP got well received and made #1 in the USA internet chart with our cover of BB King’s ‘The Thrill is Gone’, and it’s still in the US internet charts to this day.

We were blown away by how well the EP turned out, so Gordon, the guitarist, and myself decided to start writing an album with all original songs. Both of us being song writers, we got together every week at Gordon’s house and the writing all came together really quickly.

We ended up with over 15 songs and picked out what we considered the best nine songs for the album. The new material was coming out as much more than just the blues and we didn’t want to limit ourselves with a ‘Blues Band’ name, so we decided use the Eric Street Band name instead - it being more well-known, with album sales all over the world, and tracks in the internet charts in the USA and the UK.

‘Purple Passage’ is not like the other ten Eric Street albums. It’s got a different feel, more raw, exciting and spontaneous - with me and Gordon, plus Henry and Adam on excellent bass and drums, all playing together as a band in the studio and really going for it! The album has its roots in the blues, as Gordon and myself are both great blues lovers. But in addition to the blues, it’s also got soul, rock and even a bit of funk.

The album took a couple of months to record and mix, and we loved every day we were in the studio - we can’t wait to put it out and take it on the road.

Thanks, Dennis
